Welcome to the Finally Held podcast, where we prioritize mental health, self-care and embracing our healing journey together. I'm your host, jessica Lundy, and we are doing a special holiday episode. We were planning to take the week off for Thanksgiving, but I know that the holidays can be one of the most stressful times of the year, so I wanted to come here with a quick mental health tip to really help you during this experience. I also know that this can be a time full of emotions. For some people, the holidays can be their favorite time of the year. For others, it can be, you know, a really challenging time, and I encourage you to take a moment to really process how you're feeling in the moment. And it's okay if you feel a little bit sad, if you cry, if you miss loved ones that aren't here. I think it's a really good idea to take the time to actually feel that emotion instead of suppress it. And for the family that you have that are here, like, take the time to express a moment of gratitude. Let them know that you love their mac and cheese. That a moment of gratitude. Let them know that you love their mac and cheese. That it's the best. Let them know that you're glad that they came home for the holidays. Sometimes we just think these things but we don't say them out loud, and so I think taking that extra bit of time to just tell people that you love them, that you appreciate them, that you are glad that they are in your life, will go a long way.
Jessica Lundy:But my mental health tip for this week is to set boundaries with love. Setting boundaries can be one of the most powerful strategies that you can utilize during this holiday season. Your goal is to not just make it through the holidays, but you want to enjoy the experience with joy and peace, right With love and kindness. So you want to let people know if some conversations are coming up and it's getting a little bit heated and you need to take a lap, you know, and take a walk right, walk off that holiday meal, that's okay. You have to prioritize your mental health and your wellbeing. You know, when I come home for the holidays, I like to get my own hotel. You know some people like to be, you know, in a house with a lot of people and a lot going on. But I realized from my own mental health and well-being that I do better when I get to enjoy the hours I'm with my family and then enjoy the hours I get to go back to my hotel. So just know that's okay. But I want you to just go into the situation, kind of managing your expectations. Go into the situation, really thinking about some of the scenarios so that you don't feel blindsided and then also be welcoming, right. So if there's some people that are bringing people to the family outing for the first time, the family dinner, like make them feel welcomed. Like most of us at some point in our life have been the first person to come to a family dinner and it can be very awkward. But you know, embracing someone with love, with encouragement, with support, with kindness can go a long way and, honestly, it will be something you'll look back years from now and be grateful that you gave that bit of kindness to them and make that person feel special.
Jessica Lundy:This week's healing moment is about taking a Thanksgiving gratitude pause. Whether this has been a challenging year for you or a challenging season, we all have at least three things that we can identify that we are grateful for. I know for me, every day I wake up grateful to have breath in my lungs and to be able to breathe without support. There's so many things that we can be grateful for. It could be family, it could be friends, it could be being aligned in your purpose, getting around people that understand you and get you. So I want you to get quiet people that understand you and get you. So, once you get quiet, that might look like going for a walk, maybe even doing this as a family exercise with your people, so that everyone around you can take a moment to be grateful. So this was your quick mental health tip.
Jessica Lundy:This is also a really good time for you to catch up on any episodes of the podcast that you have missed. Also, we have our major 2025 planning event coming up December 14th. I cannot wait to reflect on this past year with you to plan for the new year. So make sure you get your tickets today. Tickets are selling out and I want to make sure that get your tickets today. Tickets are selling out and I want to make sure that you are there and also share this with a friend. Right?
